The first thing Kael heard after dying was laughter.

Kael looked around.
There was no ground beneath his feet.
No sky above him.
Only an endless white space filled with thousands of glowing doors.

Monsters.
Every one of them was being chosen.
One after another, golden chains descended from the heavens and wrapped themselves around the candidates.

A young woman immediately burst into flames.

A boy who had never held a sword suddenly received a divine blade.

Another candidate opened his eyes and saw through the entire dimension.
Then Kael stepped forward.
He expected the same miracle.
Instead, every golden light disappeared.
The gods went silent.
And the largest door in the entire dimension slammed shut.
A final message appeared in front of him.

[You possess no heroic destiny.]
[You have been rejected by every known god.]
Kael stared at the words.
Then he smiled.
Because there was one thing the gods had forgotten to check.
Whether he was willing to accept their rejection.
He raised his middle finger toward the heavens.
“Good.”
The gods froze.
Kael looked up at them.
“Because I wasn't planning on worshipping you anyway.”
