In the halo 3 ODST universe there is a character named Elias Vance; a heavy air assault unit. He dies and later on and becomes a spartan but his successor (Mason) did not figure that out until he greets him on his mission the place of where he died. The spartan of Elias betrays Mason and kills him because he thinks Mason is a liability to his identity.
