Every third of November, the village of Ezua asks for a volunteer. In twenty-three years, nobody has ever raised a hand — so Chief Cean Ezua goes home, opens the ledger of every soul in his village, and chooses one. His wife calls it mercy. His eleven-year-old daughter calls him an angel. This year his finger stops on the young baker who gave her bread that morning. A 2D pen-line dark fantasy of medieval bones and old ritual, about the man who does the choosing and the lie he tells to stay one.
