Kai Logan is a simple man trying to live a simple life. In his early thirties, he works as a casino dealer at one of Maryland’s biggest casinos—a job he loves, even when the customers test every last nerve he has.
His world revolves around the people closest to him: Jane, his loud, fearless best friend and coworker, and Jordan, the unpredictable friend who always keeps life interesting. Every Tuesday, the three follow the same ritual: karaoke night at the Lilliput, drinks with friends, and a late-night meal at their favorite restaurant. It is messy, loud, familiar, and theirs.
Then Jordan fails to show up.
When Kai and Jane go looking for him, they find that their routine—and their lives—have been shattered. Jordan has been murdered in his apartment, leaving behind questions that no one seems willing to answer. As Kai grieves, he learns that Jordan had been hiding more than anyone realized, including feelings that change everything Kai thought he knew about their friendship.
Against Jane’s wishes and despite the danger surrounding him, Kai begins searching for answers. What starts as a personal attempt to understand Jordan’s death pulls him into a shadowy world of secrets, scandal, blackmail, and revenge. With suspects everywhere and trust becoming harder to find, Kai must decide how far he is willing to go for the truth.
