Eighteen-year-old Jafari was once the brightest student in his class. A naturally gifted straight-A student, he was expected to graduate at the top of his school and attend a prestigious university. But now, during his senior year, he has stopped caring about grades, college, careers, or the future everyone else has planned for him. While his classmates compete for academic recognition and prestigious jobs, Jafari dreams of something simpler: endless skies, open fields, farming, exploration, and a life where he can build something meaningful with his own hands. Jafari is a Black Japanese teenager with rich dark-brown skin, warm brown eyes, full lips, thick eyebrows, a defined jawline, and short-to-medium black locs with a clean tapered fade. He is approximately 5’11”, lean, naturally athletic, and trained in martial arts. At school, he wears his uniform casually, usually with rolled sleeves, an open collar, and a loosened tie. His relaxed posture and slightly tired eyes make him appear unmotivated, but whenever he is exploring, inventing, planning, or protecting someone, his expression becomes intensely focused. Jafari spent much of his childhood camping with his grandfather, who taught him wilderness survival, fishing, hunting, navigation, shelter-building, and how to live from the land. Jafari is also a history enthusiast who studies the development of ancient civilizations, warfare, agriculture, government, engineering, and technology. As a member of his school’s robotics club, he understands machinery, mechanical systems, and the basic principles behind many modern inventions. The person who refuses to give up on him is Suki, his 17-year-old childhood best friend and a junior at the same high school. Suki is a Black Japanese girl with deep mahogany-brown skin, expressive dark-brown eyes, full lips, soft Afro-Japanese features, and long natural black hair worn in neat knotless braids, twists, or a thick braided ponytail. She is approximately 5’6”, graceful, fit, and athletic. She wears her school uniform properly and takes pride in her appearance without looking overly glamorous. Intelligent, organized, ambitious, and secretly in love with Jafari, Suki has spent most of her life working to catch up to his natural abilities. She cannot understand why someone so talented would throw away the promising future available to him. Beneath her frustration is a deeper fear: Jafari is approaching graduation, and she worries that he may leave without ever understanding how much he means to her. Suki excels in home economics, cooking, sewing, first aid, gardening, herbalism, agriculture, and identifying useful plants. She also practices martial arts with Jafari through a school club they attend together. Where Jafari is instinctive, imaginative, and mechanically gifted, Suki is disciplined, practical, socially aware, and skilled at transforming his ambitious ideas into organized systems. Jafari and Suki’s other longtime best friend is Alex, an intelligent but socially awkward student who frequently joins them for lunch on the school rooftop. The three have been close friends for years, although their personalities and strengths are very different. Alex is a slim teenage boy with messy dark hair, observant eyes, rectangular glasses, and a slightly nervous expression. He is a brilliant researcher, inventor, and technology enthusiast who studies inventions and engineering traditions from different countries and historical periods. He is especially fascinated by steam engines, clockwork mechanisms, mechanical transportation, gears, industrial machinery, and steampunk designs. Although Alex is exceptionally intelligent, he lacks confidence. He is awkward around girls, avoids physical confrontation, and has struggled to stand up to bullies. He admires Jafari’s calm courage and physical ability and has secretly asked Jafari to teach him martial arts. Alex does not want to remain someone who freezes whenever another person is in danger. He wants to become stronger, braver, and capable of protecting the people he loves. Despite his complaints and occasional nervousness, Alex is fiercely loyal to Jafari and Suki. Jafari never treats him as weak or useless, while Alex is one of the few people who understands the true depth of Jafari’s intelligence. Their friendship is built on trust, humor, shared inventions, and the certainty that neither would abandon the other. Although Jafari and Suki are the childhood pair at the emotional center of the group, all three friends regularly spend lunch together on the school rooftop. Their afternoons are filled with arguments about the future, conversations about technology and history, Alex’s strange invention ideas, Suki’s attempts to keep both boys organized, and Jafari staring into the open sky while dreaming about a different kind of life. One afternoon, the bell calls them back to class. Jafari, Suki, and Alex gather their belongings and open the rooftop door. But the school is no longer on the other side. Instead, the doorway leads into a vast primeval forest inhabited by dangerous animals and human societies still living in the Stone Age. When the door closes behind them, it disappears, leaving all three stranded without modern tools, electricity, communication, or any known way home. After barely surviving their first encounter with the wilderness, they are discovered by hunters from a struggling cave-dwelling tribe. The tribe faces hunger, disease, dangerous predators, harsh weather, and violent conflict with neighboring groups. Although the three students initially cannot speak the tribe’s language, they slowly earn its trust by treating injuries, improving tools, helping gather food, and proving that they are willing to work alongside its people. Among the tribe is a beautiful and courageous 18-year-old young woman who gradually becomes Jafari’s second romantic interest. She has deep bronze-brown skin, expressive brown eyes, full lips, strong natural features, and long black curls or braids decorated with handmade beads, shells, feathers, and carved ornaments. Her clothing is made from leather, fur, woven plant fibers, and colorful natural dyes, appearing feminine and attractive while remaining practical for survival. She is a skilled hunter, tracker, craftswoman, and gatherer with extensive knowledge of the forest, its animals, medicinal plants, seasons, and hidden dangers. She helps Jafari, Suki, and Alex understand the tribe’s language and customs, while they introduce ideas that can improve her people’s lives. She does not fall for Jafari simply because of his intelligence or unfamiliar knowledge. Her feelings develop because he respects her abilities, listens to her advice, protects others without seeking praise, and never treats her people as stupid or inferior. Their bond strengthens as she teaches him how to survive in her world while he shows her possibilities that her people never imagined. Unlike Suki, the tribal girl is open and playfully forward about her attraction. She brings Jafari food, sits close beside him, compliments him, takes his hand without warning, and confidently suggests that she would make an excellent partner. Her affection is sincere, innocent, and cute, but it creates romantic tension because Jafari remains largely oblivious while Suki realizes that someone else may reach his heart before she finds the courage to confess. The tribal girl is not merely a romantic obstacle. She becomes an essential member of the developing civilization, serving as an explorer, translator, cultural ambassador, military scout, and eventual leader. Although she and Suki initially compete for Jafari’s attention and struggle to understand one another, neither girl is portrayed as cruel, foolish, or jealous without reason. Their rivalry gradually develops into mutual respect and a powerful friendship. Another member of the tribe is a sweet, shy girl close to Alex’s age. She is gentle, observant, and quietly intelligent, with large expressive eyes, soft natural features, and dark hair decorated with small flowers, wooden beads, or simple handmade ornaments. She is initially curious about Alex’s glasses, unusual tools, drawings, and mechanical ideas, but his nervousness around her makes even basic conversations adorably awkward. At first, she sees Alex as intelligent but physically timid. Alex is immediately attracted to her, but he becomes flustered whenever she speaks to him and struggles to express himself. Their relationship develops slowly through small acts of kindness. She helps him understand the tribe’s materials, plants, animal behavior, and crafting methods, while he creates tools that make her daily work safer and easier. Her feelings begin to change after she witnesses Alex confront danger despite being terrified. Alex does not suddenly become fearless or physically unstoppable. His courage comes from acting even while he is afraid. When someone in the tribe is threatened, he uses his intelligence, developing martial arts skills, and carefully designed traps to protect them. That moment becomes the beginning of Alex’s transformation. Under Jafari’s training, Alex gradually becomes stronger, more disciplined, and more capable of defending himself. He learns hand-to-hand combat, staff fighting, archery, battlefield awareness, tracking, and survival. By combining these abilities with his intelligence, he develops a unique fighting style based on planning, traps, misdirection, environmental control, and mechanical weapons. Alex begins designing snares, alarms, pit traps, defensive walls, collapsible barriers, pulley systems, repeating mechanisms, siege defenses, and machines powered by water, wind, animals, and eventually steam. He grows from an awkward student who hides behind others into a brave, intelligent warrior who protects people through preparation and strategy. The shy tribal girl gradually falls in love with the person Alex choos
