The Man Who Died Between the Stars
CHAPTER ONE — DEAD ON ARRIVAL
At 2:17 a.m.

Daniel Mercer died

There was no hospital room
.
No surgeon
.
No priest
.
No family gathered around a bed
.
There was only the impossible brilliance of an alien ship hanging silently above a lonely Appalachian highway and the sensation of Daniel’s heart tearing itself apart inside his chest
